## Executive GIST (TL;DR)
- The American Heart Association’s **Hard Hats with Heart** campaign in Chicago is a year-round, industry-specific initiative focused on improving cardiovascular health in the construction workforce. - Three Chicago construction leaders—**Andy Hill** (CEO, Glass Solutions, Inc.), **Mallory Gurtz** (COO, Gurtz Electric) and **Sean Bowker** (Senior VP, Power Construction)—were named 2026 co-chairs to lead community-based solutions and outreach. - Hard Hats with Heart reported a landmark year with more than $1 million in revenue and nearly 100 participating companies; onsite volunteer CPR saves in Chicago were highlighted by long-time volunteers. - The campaign’s core message is that **heart health is essential to workplace safety**: construction workers face elevated cardiovascular risk due to long hours, high stress, poor nutrition, high tobacco use, and limited heart-strengthening exercise. - Andy Hill advocates placing **AEDs** at every job site and leverages his multi-generational construction background and board involvement to advance the campaign. - Mallory Gurtz emphasizes mentorship, safety-focused workplace culture, and collaboration across industry boards and projects spanning healthcare, data centers, aviation and entertainment. - Sean Bowker stresses investing in people and ongoing learning, positioning workplace wellness as integral to safety, equity and industry sustainability. - The 2026 Hard Hats with Heart annual event is scheduled for Oct. 1 at Blackhawks Ice Center, expecting 400+ guests, survivor moments, co-chair remarks and networking. - Sponsors for the 2026 event include Glass Solutions, Advance Mechanical, Automated Logic Controls, Connelly Electric, Gurtz Electric, Power Construction and The Hill Group among others. - For more information about the Chicago campaign, the contact listed is Jasmine Richardson at Jasmine.Richardson@Heart.org. - The American Heart Association is described as an organization dedicated to equitable health, research funding, advocacy, and public education, supported by more than 35 million volunteers worldwide.

Long-time campaign volunteers also shared inspiring stories of onsite CPR saves in Chicago. This year, the event will celebrate its accomplishments at the annual Hard Hats with Heart event at Blackhawks Ice Center on Oct. 1. “This year was a record year for Hard Hats with Heart. This work truly doesn’t come to life without the dedication of a construction industry that not only believes that better is possible, but that we all have a role in seeing it come to fruition,” said Brittany Walsh, executive director for the American Heart Association, Chicago. “I look forward to not only celebrating with our volunteers but also having conversations with as many of them as possible about what’s next and how we continue laying the groundwork for greater health for construction workers in Chicago.” **Three chairs, one mission** In the U.S., construction workers have a higher risk of developing cardiovascular disease due to factors associated with their work including long hours, high stress, poor nutrition, high tobacco use, and the lack of heart-strengthening exercise. Hard Hats with Heart Chicago centers its work around one core idea:**you can’t be safe without your heart health**. This year’s three Chicago co-chairs kept their shared focus on excellence in Chicago’s construction business central to their charge to elevate health outcomes in their community. Andy Hill's drive for a better construction world is multi-generational. Hill followed in his father, grandfather and uncles' footsteps to become a leader in the Chicago construction industry as CEO of Glass Solutions, Inc. As a Hard Hats volunteer in Chicago, Andy set an ambitious goal to place AEDs at every job site in America to empower construction workers to save a life in a cardiac emergency. Hill's construction-focused community service extends throughout the city. He sits on several boards including the Coaches Vs. Cancer national planning committee and the board of St. Francis High School. “It’s a privilege to be part of Hard Hats with Heart in Chicago during a time of such great progress for the initiative,” Hill said. “Hard Hats with Heart has been transformational in keeping us engaged with our health individually as we also strive for solutions that will impact the construction industry at the local, national and, hopefully, even global level. I don’t take lightly the trust that has been placed in me to lead this campaign this year and look forward to sharing even more success stories in the near future.” Mallory Gurtz joined the Hard Hats with Heart Chicago campaign with over 10 years of experience in the electrical industry, where she emphasizes mentorship and building workplace cultures that center innovation and safety. Her work with Gurtz Electric sits at the intersection of operations, processes and agility. Gurtz and Gurtz Electric have spearheaded projects throughout the Midwest, including health care, data centers, aviation, and entertainment. Gurtz serves on several industry boards, including the Electrical Contractors Association of Chicago, the Electrical Association, and the Scouts Construction Industry committee. “Change is best achieved through collaboration. I’m thrilled to stand alongside these two innovators in construction as we mobilize an industry we are all passionate about to take our health seriously,” Gurtz said. “Chicago’s position as a forerunner in architecture, construction and design will only be as strong as its willingness to steer conversations about workplace wellness. Creativity thrives in healthy businesses. Sean Bowker believes the construction industry’s success depends on investing in people as much as it invests in projects. During Sean Bowker’s nearly three decades at Power Construction, the company has overseen projects across the healthcare, food, hospitality, residential and corporate sectors with innovation and safety at the forefront of their work. Bowker’s involvement in Hard Hats with Heart reflects his commitment to continued growth as a leader. “Construction is a fast-moving industry where those who cease to learn will inevitably be left behind. The conversation about improving workplace health isn’t one we want to miss out on,” Bowker said, “I’m honored to be part of this initiative where industry leaders and individual contributors alike get to actively shape how we think about what makes an industry not just successful but safe and equitable. More importantly, as we evolve, our view on healthy workplaces will shift, too so that each generation that follows us will truly get the best our companies have to offer as we strive to change the future of health for Chicago construction.” **Celebrating a heart-healthy industry** The 2026 Hard Hats with Heart is sponsored by Glass Solutions, Advance Mechanical, Automated Logic Controls, Connelly Electric, Gurtz Electric, Power Construction, The Hill Group and many more. The event on Oct. 1 will celebrate a year of achievement with survivor moments, co-chair remarks and networking for more than 400 anticipated guests.
