Heart of Kansas City engages companies, community leaders and individuals to make a lasting impact across the Four Chambers of the American Heart Association’s work: discovery, advocacy, access and knowledge. The campaign will come together at the Kansas City Heart Ball, celebrating hope and progress made through the dedication and passion of all who support the American Heart Association, a relentless force changing the future of health for everyone, everywhere. “Countless families, including my own, have been affected by a loved one experiencing issues with heart health,” said Mark Garrett, Chief People Officer at Garney. “That’s why I’m so passionate about raising funds and awareness for the great work the American Heart Association is doing. I’m honored to serve as chair of this year’s Heart Ball and further the organization’s vision of a world where we all have longer, healthier lives.” Previously, Garrett held senior leadership positions in operations and human resources at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City, Smithfield Foods, Kansas City Public School District and Hallmark Cards. Prior to Garney, he served as the Sr. Vice President and Chief Human Resources and Operations Officer at Blue Cross and Blue Shield. Dedicated to bettering the Kansas City community, Garrett serves on the boards for Driven Development, YMCA of Greater Kansas City, Phoenix Family, the Kansas City Sports Commission, as well as the Strategic Advisory Board of Blue Cross and Blue Shield. He previously served on the boards of the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, Rose Brooks, Children’s International, Feed the Children, and Baptist News Global. “Mark brings exceptional vision and energy as a respected community leader. His commitment to the American Heart Association’s mission, combined with a clear passion for improving the well-being of our community, makes him an outstanding choice to lead this year’s campaign,” Carla Duyree, volunteer board chair of American Heart Association – Kansas City. “We welcome Mark as chair of the Heart of Kansas City campaign, which unites leaders across our community to advance health and hope.” The 2027 Kansas City Heart Ball is sponsored by Garney, JE Dunn Construction, and Lockton, along with many other local companies dedicated to improving health and well-being for the Kansas City community. The Kansas City Heart Ball will be held on February 27 at The Loews Kansas City Hotel. The annual event is a night to celebrate the American Heart Association’s year-round efforts to build a healthier Kansas City. Throughout the evening, the American Heart Association will honor volunteers and patrons, share survivor stories and entertain guests with dinner, dancing and an auction.
