## Executive GIST (TL;DR)
- Investigators performed a bench analysis of 23 commercially produced adult video laryngoscope blades to quantify geometric features and camera view. - The team measured blade and camera angles relative to the handle, intrinsic heel-to-tip curvature (independent of the handle), and camera vertical field of view. - The cohort included 11 **standard geometry** video laryngoscopes and 8 non-channeled **hyperangulated** video laryngoscopes; medians and Hodges–Lehmann median differences with 95% CIs were reported. - The handle-referenced blade tip angle overlapped between classes (median 40° standard vs 48° hyperangulated; median difference 8°, 95% CI −5° to 16°), so it did not reliably classify blades. - Vertical camera field of view was similar across groups (median 34° vs 37°; difference 3°, 95% CI −1° to 9°), indicating field of view did not discriminate classes. - Measurements of **intrinsic blade curvature** did distinguish classes: hyperangulated blades showed greater heel-to-tip deflection (median 80° vs 49°; difference 31°, 95% CI 21° to 40°) and smaller radius of curvature (70 mm vs 113 mm; difference −42 mm, 95% CI −57 to −28 mm) despite similar arc length. - Authors concluded that shape-based metrics (intrinsic curvature) better separate blade types than handle-referenced angles or camera field of view; they suggested reporting shape metrics to enable consistent classification and comparison. - Data availability: authors indicated all data are available on reasonable request. The preprint has not been peer reviewed; investigators declared no competing interests.

However, this distinction rests on the original Glidescope's historically cited 60 deg angle rather than any recognized definition of a blade's "angle." Different methods of measuring angulation of a blade yield angles that differ by 30 deg or more, and blades are classified by convention rather than by measurement. We developed standardized geometric measurements and determined which best discriminate between the two blade types. Methods: In a bench study of 23 commercially produced adult laryngoscope blades, we measured (i) blade and camera angles relative to the handle, (ii) intrinsic blade curvature from heel to tip, and (iii) camera field of view. The primary analysis compared measurements from 11 standard geometry video laryngoscopes and 8 non-channeled, hyperangulated video laryngoscopes. We report medians and Hodges-Lehmann median differences with 95% confidence intervals. Results: The handle-referenced blade tip angle did not distinguish the classes (median 40 deg standard geometry vs 48 deg hyperangulated; median difference 8 deg, 95% CI -5 deg to 16 deg), and the vertical video field of view did not differ (34 deg vs 37 deg; difference 3 deg, 95% CI -1 deg to 9 deg). The intrinsic blade curvature, measured without relation to the handle, differed between classes. Hyperangulated blades had a larger heel-to-tip deflection angle (80 deg vs 49 deg; difference 31 deg, 95% CI 21 deg to 40 deg) and a smaller average radius of curvature (70 vs 113 mm; difference -42 mm, 95% CI -57 to -28 mm) despite similar arc length (119 vs 120 mm). Conclusions: Intrinsic blade curvature, rather than the field of view or often-cited angle between the handle and blade tip, best distinguished standard geometry from hyperangulated video laryngoscopes. Reporting shape-based geometry measurements would support consistent classification and comparison. ### Competing Interest Statement The authors have declared no competing interest. ### Author Declarations I confirm all relevant ethical guidelines have been followed, and any necessary IRB and/or ethics committee approvals have been obtained.
