## Executive GIST (TL;DR)
- The study evaluated the onboard hemolysis detection of the **GEM® Premier™ 7000** for whole blood, focusing on effects of hemolysis on measured **potassium** and detection across hemoglobin variants. - Investigators analyzed 50 patient arterial blood samples paired with Atellica Solution analyzers to assess analytical behavior during induced hemolysis. The report gives concrete pre- and post-hemolysis comparisons. - Experimental hemolysis drove median hemolysis index values from 1 to 6 and median potassium from 3.6 to 9.8 mmol/L; the change was statistically significant (p<0.001), the study team observed. - A second experiment used samples from 10 healthy volunteers with deliberate hemoglobin overload using **HbA0**, **HbS**, and **HbF** to probe variant-dependent detection performance. - Data indicated the onboard multi-wavelength co-oximetry method accurately tracked increasing free hemoglobin concentrations for all three hemoglobin types during overload experiments. - Authors concluded the integrated hemolysis detection reliably flagged clinically significant hemolysis in whole blood, supporting improved point-of-care blood gas result interpretation. - The abstract did not report detailed assay limits of detection, specific hemoglobin concentration thresholds, full statistical tables, or precise methodological parameters for the overload protocol; those details were not provided in the source.

The GEM ® Premier™ 7000 incorporates an onboard hemolysis detection system based on multi-wavelength co-oximetry, allowing direct estimation of free hemoglobin in whole blood samples. This study evaluated the analytical performance of this system across different hemoglobin variants, including fetal hemoglobin (HbF) and hemoglobin S (HbS). Methods: Fifty patient samples undergoing routine arterial blood gas and biochemical testing were analyzed using the GEM ® Premier™ 7000, and Atellica Solution analyzers. Experimental hemolysis was induced to evaluate the performance of the onboard hemolysis detection system. In a second step, hemoglobin overload experiments using HbA 0 , HbF, and HbS were performed in samples from 10 healthy volunteers to assess the robustness of hemolysis detection across different hemoglobin variants. Results: Experimental hemolysis significantly increased the hemolysis index and potassium concentrations measured on the GEM ® Premier™ 7000, with median hemolysis index values rising from 1 to 6 and median potassium concentrations from 3.6 to 9.8 mmol/L (p<0.001). The GEM ® Premier™ 7000 accurately detected increasing concentrations of free HbA 0 , HbS, and HbF throughout the overload experiments. Conclusions: The integrated hemolysis detection system reliably detected clinically significant hemolysis in whole blood samples, supporting more reliable point-of-care blood gas testing.
