## Executive GIST (TL;DR)
- The PLOS One Editors announced a formal **retraction** of the article reporting antiparkinsonian effects of **Syzygium heyneanum** in a paraquat-induced rodent model; the notice lists figure and data integrity concerns. - Investigators and readers flagged visual overlaps: multiple histology panels in Fig 2 and the Fig 3 control panel appear similar to panels published or submitted elsewhere, including material associated with a separate, later-retracted manuscript. - The notice identifies repeated, unusually uniform standard error of the mean values across Tables 4–6; table anomalies raised statistical reliability questions for the reported analyses. - The corresponding author acknowledged figure-preparation errors in related unpublished material and asserted that material in another published paper had been used without the data owner’s authorization; that was the author’s stated position. - The corresponding author provided individual-level data for the article’s graphs and tables; editorial review of those data flagged additional integrity and reliability concerns that the notice does not detail further. - The PLOS One Editors retracted the article on the basis of concerns about the underlying individual-level data. The notice records disagreement from one author (MA), ambiguous response from ZC, and nonresponse or inability to reach several other coauthors. - The published retraction links the article to two related publications cited in the notice, including one later retraction; the notice supplies full bibliographic references and DOI links for transparency. - The journal published the retraction on October 20, 2026, and made the editorial statement and related links openly available under a Creative Commons license. - The notice does not report experimental methods, dosing, animal numbers, statistical test details, or other protocol specifics; those methodological elements were not provided in the retraction text. - Investigators, readers, and editors are left with unresolved questions about the provenance of certain image files and the integrity of the primary dataset supporting the experimental claims.

Specifically, * The following panels appear similar, despite being used to represent different experimental conditions: * Fig 2 CG Liver of [[1](https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0360894#pone.0360894.ref001)] and Fig 2 CG:Liver of [[2](https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0360894#pone.0360894.ref002)]. * Fig 2 CG Lungs of [[1](https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0360894#pone.0360894.ref001)] and Fig 2 CG:Lung of [[2](https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0360894#pone.0360894.ref002)]. * Fig 2 TR Heart of [[1](https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0360894#pone.0360894.ref001)] and Fig 2 TR:Heart of [[2](https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0360894#pone.0360894.ref002)]. * Fig 2 TR Lungs of [[1](https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0360894#pone.0360894.ref001)] and Fig 2 TR:Lung of [[2](https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0360894#pone.0360894.ref002)]. * The Fig 3 CG panel of [[1](https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0360894#pone.0360894.ref001)] and the CG panel in unpublished material submitted for [3, retracted in 4]. * In Tables 4-6, the reported values for the standard error of the mean appear unusually repetitive. Regarding the concerns with similarities between results presented in Fig 3 of [[1](https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0360894#pone.0360894.ref001)] and unpublished material submitted with [3, retracted in 4], the corresponding author stated that errors were made during the figure preparation of the images presented in the original version of [3, retracted in 4], which were corrected in subsequent revisions of the manuscript. Regarding the concerns with similarities between material in this article and the material published in [[2](https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0360894#pone.0360894.ref002)], the corresponding author stated that the material in [[2](https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0360894#pone.0360894.ref002)] was used without the data owner’s authorization. The corresponding author provided the individual-level data underlying the graphs and tables presented in this article. Editorial assessment of these data raised additional concerns about the integrity and reliability of these data. In light of the concerns observed with the individual-level data underlying this study, the _PLOS One_ Editors retract this article. MA did not agree with the retraction. ZC responded but did not clarify either agreement or disagreement. MS, HT, US, SAB, ASehar, and ASethi either did not respond directly or could not be reached. ## References 1. 1.
