## Executive GIST (TL;DR)
- This randomized clinical trial evaluated a structured **nurse-led support program** targeting **death anxiety** in women receiving treatment for breast cancer. The trial was reported in Support Care Cancer with PMID 42618834 and DOI 10.1007/s00520-026-11119-6. - The intervention was a comprehensive support program delivered in six sessions, both in-person and online, addressing physical, psychological, spiritual, and sexual needs. The program was described as structured and nurse-led. - Participants were recruited by convenience sampling and randomized to intervention and control groups. The abstract reports a total of 66 women but also states 35 individuals per group; this numerical discrepancy was present in the source and not resolved there. - Death anxiety was measured with the **Templer Death Anxiety Scale** at baseline, immediately post-intervention, and one month after the intervention. Data were analyzed using SPSS 21.0 with significance assessed at p < 0.05. - Immediately after the intervention mean death anxiety scores were 3.2 ± 0.82 in the intervention group versus 8.48 ± 2.61 in controls (difference reported as statistically significant). One month later the intervention group scored 5.2 ± 0.73 versus control 8.48 ± 2.61 (p < 0.001). - The authors conclude the nurse-led program significantly reduced death anxiety among women with breast cancer undergoing hormonal therapy and recommend integrating structured nursing interventions into routine care to improve psychological well-being. - Trial registration: IRCT20240120060738N1 (registered on 2024.01.28). Ethics approval was obtained from Jahrom University of Medical Sciences (approval number IR.JUMS.REC.1402.108); informed consent was obtained and authors declared no competing interests. - The source does not report detailed participant demographics, randomization method, attrition, full session content, or statistical test specifics beyond SPSS 21.0 and p-values; those details were not reported in the abstract and therefore cannot be restated here.

This study investigates the impact of a structured nursing support program on death anxiety in women undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer. **Methods:** This clinical trial was conducted on 66 women with breast cancer. Participants were selected using a convenience sampling method and randomly assigned to intervention and control groups (35 individuals per group). A comprehensive support program was provided to the case group both in-person and online. The comprehensive support program is a structured nurse-led intervention consisting of six in-person and virtual sessions designed to address the physical, psychological, spiritual, and sexual needs of patients. Data were collected using the Templer Death Anxiety Scale before, immediately after, and one month after the intervention. The data were analyzed using SPSS 21.0 (p < 0.05). **Findings:** The results showed a statistically significant difference in the mean death anxiety score between the intervention (3.2 ± 0.82) and control (8.48 ± 2.61) groups immediately after the intervention, as well as one month after the intervention. The intervention group scored 5.2 ± 0.73, while the control group scored 8.48 ± 2.61 (p < 0.001). **Conclusion:** The findings support the effectiveness of nurse-led support programs significantly reduces death anxiety among women with breast cancer undergoing hormonal therapy. Consequently, integrating these structured nursing interventions into standard clinical care can effectively enhance psychological well-being. **Trial registration:** IRCT20240120060738N1 (available on: www.irct.behdasht.gov.ir ; 2024.01.28). **Keywords:** Breast cancer; Death anxiety; Nurse led support group. © 2026.
