## Executive GIST (TL;DR)
- Investigators analyzed 131 stool specimens from children hospitalized with **acute gastroenteritis (AGE)** during an outbreak in Salvador, Bahia; samples were tested by nested PCR. - The cohort yielded 13 **HBoV**-positive samples by nested PCR, and the study team reported that children under one year accounted for the largest affected subgroup. - Positive PCR products were sequenced; the authors also attempted virus isolation by inoculating positive material onto Vero cell cultures. - Study personnel reported successful propagation of HBoV in Vero cells; downstream analyses included SDS–PAGE and Western blot, which revealed protein bands the authors interpreted as consistent with bocavirus structural proteins. - The manuscript notes the need for improved diagnostic approaches and preventive measures for **human bocavirus** and other viral causes of pediatric gastroenteritis but does not provide clinical management guidelines. - Ethical approval was obtained from the Research Ethics Committee of the Institute of Health Sciences, Federal University of Bahia (ICS-UFBA) under CAAE 61239422.9.0000.5662; all data are reported within the manuscript. - The source did not report detailed sequencing results, viral load data, specific culture conditions beyond Vero cell use, nor clinical severity scoring or detailed patient demographics beyond age grouping.

AGE is characterized by symptoms including diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and fever and may require hospitalization in severe cases. Methods: A total of 131 stool samples collected from children hospitalized with AGE at a hospital in Salvador, Bahia, were analyzed. HBoV was detected using nested polymerase chain reaction (nested PCR). Positive samples were sequenced and inoculated into Vero cell cultures, followed by sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS PAGE) and Western blotting. Results: Of the samples analyzed, 13 tested positive for HBoV; children younger than one year were described as the most affected by AGE and HBoV. The study reports successful HBoV culture in Vero cells. Subsequent SDS PAGE and Western blot analyses identified bands suggestive of HBoV structural proteins. Conclusion: This study highlights the need for accurate diagnostic methods and preventive strategies to control the spread of HBoV and other pathogens associated with gastroenteritis in pediatric populations.
