## Executive GIST (TL;DR)
- Purpose: To describe the views and experiences of **significant others** of persons with contemporary treated **rheumatoid arthritis (RA)**, acknowledging that RA affects both patients and their partners/supporters. - Setting and recruitment: Patients at rehabilitation clinics in southeast Sweden were asked to invite significant others; sixteen significant others participated in individual semi-structured interviews. - Methods: Data were analyzed using Braun and Clarke's reflexive thematic analysis approach; the study is qualitative and exploratory in design. - Key finding 1 — A need to be involved and informed: Participants reported receiving some information but frequently feeling **left out** and insufficiently informed about the patient's condition and care. - Key finding 2 — Help and support go both ways: Significant others and patients provided mutual support; however, significant others reported their own unmet needs for support. - Key finding 3 — Making everyday life work: Respondents described adapting routines to manage daily life, losing some activities, and experiencing pressure to take on a caring role. - Implication: Significant others report limited involvement in **rehabilitation** and gaps in information; addressing their needs could improve the support they provide and may reduce burden on healthcare services. - Contextual details: Study conducted in Sweden; keywords listed by authors include delivery of healthcare, rehabilitation, rheumatoid arthritis, significant others, and social support. - Conclusion: To enable significant others to offer optimal support, healthcare professionals should pay attention to their information and involvement needs; the study highlights potential system-level benefits if those needs are met.

Sixteen significant others accepted. Data were analyzed using Braun and Clarke's reflexive thematic analysis. **Results:** Experiences were described through three themes: _1) A need to be involved and informed:_ significant others described how they were provided information, but also felt left out and uninformed; _2) Help and support go both ways:_ patients and their significant others were big supports to each other; however, significant others were in need of more support themselves; _3) Making everyday life work:_ they had found routines in everyday life, but had lost certain activities and, experienced pressure to adopt a caring role. **Conclusions:** Significant others of persons with RA report lacking information and limited involvement in rehabilitation. In order for significant others to provide the best possible support, attention should be paid to their needs. If given the right conditions, significant others can potentially reduce the burden on the healthcare system. **Keywords:** Delivery of healthcare; rehabilitation; rheumatoid arthritis; significant others; social support.
