STAMFORD, Conn., July 9, 2026 - The American Heart Association, a relentless force changing the future of health for everyone everywhere, announces John Glenn Grau has assumed the role of board chair for the Westchester and Fairfield counties local board of directors. In this role, Grau will direct regional efforts to combat the country's No. 1 and No. 4 killers, heart disease and stroke. "Surviving an aortic aneurysm in 2020 transformed not only my health but also my life's purpose," Grau said. "I learned that healing isn't just about recovering from surgery. It's about recognizing the power of early detection, self-advocacy and understanding your family history." Although he had no symptoms and his initial cardiac tests showed no concerns, Grau said asking more questions and pursuing additional evaluation uncovered a condition that saved his life. "Today, my mission is to help others become informed advocates for their own health," he said. "By serving as board chair, I want to ensure that more people have access to the education, resources and awareness needed to detect silent cardiovascular disease early.
