Introduction Overweight and obesity are a growing global public health problem. Eating behaviours of adults and children are largely influenced by the home food environment (HFE).
The lack of access to nutritious food in homes contributes to unhealthy dietary habits and, consequently, overweight and obesity among adults and children, as well as chronic diseases associated with poor diets. The present systematic review aims to identify existing HFE and household food security interventions and to determine the effects of these interventions in improving the availability of healthy food in the home, household access to food, diet quality and nutritional status of adults.
Methods and analysis This systematic review protocol was developed according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analysis protocols guidelines.
