I read with great interest the paper by Gao et al1 on the effects of low FODMAP diet (LFD) in patients with irritable bowel disease with diarrhea (D-IBS), particularly the evidence regarding mass number and levels of mast cell mediators following treatment with this diet, and the observations in germ-free mice exposed to feces from patients pre- and post-LFD.
