To the Editor We read with interest the study by Al Ta’ani et al who estimated the prevalence of iron deficiency anemia (IDA) under different ferritin thresholds using data from the US National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). While the authors appropriately highlighted challenges in treating premenopausal women, an important methodologic limitation that is not addressed is the effect of inflammation on ferritin levels.
