In Reply We thank Shen and Sun for their interest in our study assessing the impact of the 2020 American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) iron deficiency anemia (IDA) guidelines on IDA prevalence estimates in the US. We agree that systemic inflammation is an important consideration when assessing iron deficiency in clinical settings. However, we did not incorporate adjustments to the diagnostic threshold for iron deficiency based on systemic inflammation in our study assessing population-level prevalence of iron deficiency for 3 reasons.
