We have just learned with great sadness that our colleague, Dr Dominique Pessayre, passed away at the age of 80. Born in Sainte-Affrique in southern France, he studied medicine in Paris.
During his residency at the Paris hospitals, he trained in hepatology under Professor Jean-Pierre Benhamou at Beaujon Hospital in Clichy. He then joined the recently founded INSERM Research Unit (U24) at Beaujon Hospital, under the direction of Professor René Fauvert.
Professor Benhamou then encouraged him to work on cytochrome P450 using the recently developed assay by Omura and Sato.
Journal of Hepatology published a clinical update in Research Highlights on 20 Mar 2026.
