We appreciate the comments by Bo et al., which align with our findings and further highlight the importance of recognizing hypertension as a critical factor in the management and prognostication of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD).1,2 In their population-based analysis of 1,716 individuals from NHANES III with up to 31 years of follow-up, 30.5% had hypertension. Patients with MASLD and hypertension demonstrated significantly higher all-cause mortality, and multivariable Cox regression identified systolic blood pressure as an independent risk factor (HR 1.029, 95% CI 1.026-1.033).
Journal of Hepatology published a clinical update in Research Highlights on 04 Mar 2026.
