This report summarizes a secondary analysis of a multicenter randomized controlled trial that assessed whether prior acupuncture experience modifies the clinical response to acupuncture in patients with discogenic sciatica. The analysis used data from 216 randomized patients and compared outcomes between an active acupuncture protocol and a sham acupuncture control.
A total of 216 patients diagnosed with discogenic sciatica were randomized into two equal groups: 108 to the acupuncture group and 108 to the sham acupuncture group.
