Aspirus Health will open Aspirus Chippewa Falls Hospital and Clinic on Sept. 22, adding emergency, inpatient and outpatient services in a community affected by recent hospital closures.
Wausau, Wis.-based Aspirus Health is set to open Aspirus Chippewa Falls Hospital and Clinic on Sept. 22, adding hospital and outpatient services in a community that has faced recent care access disruptions.
The new 35,000-square-foot facility in Chippewa Falls, Wis., will offer emergency care, inpatient services, primary care, imaging, laboratory services and an on-site pharmacy. Aspirus said the hospital is intended to help ease access challenges that followed the March 2024 closures of HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital in Chippewa Falls and Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire, Wis., by Springfield, Ill.-based Hospital Sisters Health System.
Aspirus announced plans for the project in November 2024. The hospital is located on a 22-acre campus and was designed to bring hospital, clinic and diagnostic services together in one place. The health system said it has been preparing care teams, technology and clinical workflows ahead of the opening to support coordinated patient care.
In a July 9 news release, Jason Troxell, Northwest Wisconsin division president for Aspirus Health, said the opening is “about more than a new building” and is meant to ensure patients in Chippewa Falls and surrounding communities have dependable access to care supported by knowledgeable clinicians and the resources of a regional health system.
He also said the organization has seen strong interest from healthcare professionals who want to join the effort. According to Mr. Troxell, that interest reflects the Aspirus mission and the opportunity to build a team focused on clinical excellence, compassion and service to the community.
The Chippewa Falls facility will become Aspirus Health’s 18th hospital, according to the system’s website. Aspirus also operates more than 130 outpatient locations across Wisconsin, Michigan and Minnesota.
The company did not report additional details about staffing levels, patient volume or other operational plans for the new hospital in the source material.
