CMS data show 258 hospitals received five stars for quietness, down from 313 last year. The rating reflects how quietly patients said their rooms were at night.
CMS five-star patient experience data show that 258 hospitals earned the highest quietness rating this year, down from 313 hospitals last year. The change means 54 hospitals lost their five-star quietness rating compared with the prior year, according to the data cited by Becker’s Hospital Review.
The ratings come from CMS’ patient survey database, which uses the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems survey. The survey is a national, standardized questionnaire asking hospital patients about their experience during a recent inpatient stay. In this case, the quietness score was based on how quiet patients said their rooms were at night.
The survey responses used for the latest ratings were completed between July 2024 and June 2025. CMS last updated the data on May 13, according to the source material.
